World's End Girlfriend recently released one of the best DJ mixtapes I have ever heard. That is not saying much, since I do not make a habit of downloading mixtapes or DJ sets, but any playlist that includes Danny Elfman, Haruomi Hosono, Extreme, and clips from Full Metal Jacket is something truly special. If you have an hour to spare, listen:
I can imagine that this only will be disproportionately interesting to me, but WEG is notoriously enigmatic, and I appreciate any insight into his tastes and influences. Recommendations from artists I already like have contributed fantastically to my ever-expanding music library (foobar currently puts it at 26999 songs and 159 GB, not including my folder of FLAC files). Owen Pallett and Momus in particular have been invaluable guides. I like a great deal of this mix, but I also am unfamiliar with a majority of it. I can only hope that somebody, or perhaps Maeda himself, will make a list of the tracks and samples used.
Winter is here, so I am listening to Shiina Ringo again. You should watch these videos and understand why I hold her in such esteemed regard.
